Worse is Better is Worse
The paper linked below is a response to the classic ‘Worse is Better’, written by the guy who originally wrote it (however, it seems like he’s still on the fence). The best part (IMO), is the part about the ‘PC-loser’ issue: Ultimately, there’s no point considering two approaches if one of them is almost impossible to actually do properly.
It’s also worth mentioning that a developer is supposed to check for errors anyway – so there would still be error checking code in case something else had gone wrong with the system call.
